Happy Happy Hour

Today we are doing things a little different. Other than looking like a paper-clip, Martinsville is most known for their "Famous Martinsville Hot Dog". Raygen Swan of NASCAR.com did an "interview" with the famous dog here and you must read Megan's opinion of the dog here.

So today, instead of an adult beverage, cook a doggie (or 3) and enjoy happy hour here. Wait...ignore that first line. Hot dogs don't taste the same without beer. Cheers!!

Martinsville Cheat Sheet / Lineup

Rain rain, go away. That didn't work so much for today's qualifying at Martinsville. The starting lineup is configured on owner points. This puts current point leader Jeff Gordon (who was 3rd fastest in the first practice) on the pole. This is Gordons eighth career pole at Martinsville, where he has won seven times, tops among active drivers. Will Sunday bring an end to his 46-race winless streak?

Another reason to be a fan of Kevin Harvick...and Martinsville!

Kevin Harvick and Martinsville Speedway have partnered for a special ticket package, “Harvick’s Home Track Advantage,” for members of the 2009 Kevin Harvick Fan Club.

Harvick thinks of Martinville as his home track as he lives only a half-hour from the Speedway of this weeks race.

The “Harvick Home Track Advantage” ticket package offers members of Harvick’s Fan Club a $66 two-day package, with tickets to the Kroger 250 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series and the Goody’s Fast Pain Relief 500 NASCAR Sprint Cup races. That’s a savings of $33. Fan club members can also get single-day tickets for the Goody’s Fast Pain Relief 500 for $44, again a savings of $33.

The $33 price point correlates with the number of the Kevin Harvick Inc. truck driven by Ron Hornaday. (Brilliant!)

Kevin Harvick Fan Club members wishing to purchase truck race tickets only: $26 in advance and $31 on race day for a savings of $4. Again, the “4” is not a coincidence; it is the number of the truck driven by KHI driver Ricky Carmichael. (I think I am in love with the people who market at Martinsville!!)

Anyone wishing to join the Kevin Harvick Fan Club can visit www.kevinharvick.com.

Martinsville Speedway is also extending its discount love to your stomach! Of course, The Famous Martinsville Speedway Hot Dog™ and all Pepsi products are always infamously $2. This week Martinsville Speedway will be rolling out a BBQ Combo Value meal-a BBQ sandwich with slaw, chips and a Pepsi product for just $6. The Speedway will also be offering a kids’ meal for $4. The meal includes a Smucker’s Uncrustables Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich, a two-pack of Oreo’s, a fruit cup and a Capris Sun juice pouch.

We cant express enough gratitude to the drivers and tracks who are being mindful to this economy and its fans! We hope other tracks and drivers alike will step up to the plate with similar opportunities in the future!

Trace Adkins slated as Grand Marshall with Goody contest winners

Country music superstar and multi-faceted entertainer Trace Adkins will be the Grand Marshal and Honorary Starter for the Goody’s Fast Pain Relief 500 at Martinsville Speedway on Sunday, March 29. Adkins will lead 500 men, women and their families identified as hardworking people, through local businesses in the Martinsville/Henry (VA) county area. Goody’s and Martinsville Speedway salute all honored and couldn't be happier to have these 500 people as guests and honorary grand marshals. "We are excited to welcome Trace Adkins to the Goody’s Fast Pain Relief 500 and have him lead our 500 honorary grand marshals during pre-race ceremonies," Darren Singer, Vice President of Marketing for Goody’s Headache Powders said. "Trace Adkins’ work ethic and strength of character represent hardworking people everywhere and especially in "Goody’s Country".

The 29th Army Band, Virginia Army National Guard, will play the Star Spangled Banner before engines are fired at the historic track.

Martinsville tickets not only available, but affordable

From Martinsville Speedway website:

Martinsville Speedway has dropped the price on some of its tickets for the Goody’s Fast Pain Relief 500 on March 29 to $25. The $25 offer is the latest move by Martinsville Speedway to help race fans during the economic downturn.

“We continually look for ways to help our fans and make sure they are still going to be able to see the exciting races Martinsville Speedway has to offer,” said Speedway president W. Clay Campbell.

Fans may take advantage of the $25 backstretch offer by visiting http://www.martinsvillespeedway.com/ or calling 877.722.3849.

Martinsville Speedway also has a special College Student ticket for one-half price for a savings of $30 for college students presenting a college ID.

Also, tickets to the Kroger 250 NASCAR Camping World Series race on March 28 are now available for $30 in advance and $35 on race day, a savings of $7. Tickets are on sale for the Goody’s Fast Pain Relief 500 and the Kroger 250 and may be purchased by calling 877.722.3849 or on line at http://www.martinsvillespeedway.com/.

Scott Speed...the talk of Martinsville.

So as we venture to Martypoopsville...yes I went there.... Nascar Fashionistas must comment on the newest addition to the Nascar line up this weekend, Scott Speed. Not only is he under the careful guidance of our friend Richard "Slugger" Labbe but this boy we predict will be a great addition to the cup series! He brings some fresh new blood and an interesting new attitude to the sport. As mentioned in one of our newest found favorite blogs in Bleacher Report, this kid has a lot more substance than his painted fingernails meets the eye.

The Martinsville Hot Dog

I consider myself a Hot Dog connoisseur. Every time I go to NY, I eat so many hot dogs that I get sick. When Darlynn and I went to Beverly Hills, the most important thing for me to do while I was there was to try a world famous Pinks hot dog. My Birthday party was catered last year and I asked for a hot dog bar....you get the idea.

The first time I went to Martinsville, I was estatic about trying their world famous hot dog. It's all the group spoke of on the way up to the race, being they knew my fondness of hot dogs. So imagine me, this very excited girl, about to try the famous dog....got a good visual? Ok, I am at the counter and they asked what I wanted on it. I ordered 2. One the way I like it (relish, spicy mustard, ketchup) and one the Martinsville way (chili, mustard, onions, and vinegar-based slaw...minus the onions). I remember clearly, looking at that hot dog like it had 10 heads once I unwrapped it from the wax paper. IT WAS RED. Not pink. RED. It was so red, the bun was red. I was mortified. So, I shrugged off the fear of the red dog and took a bite. Yeah....it made its way to the garbage can faster than one could imagine. I thought I had been punked! I swear to you on my life, when I threw away those 2 hot dogs, I got the look of death from surrounding crew members that were waiting in line to buy boxes of these things.I just dont understand it! Can someone please explain this madness?
