Happy Happy Hour, Darlington Style

We are saying cheers to The Lady in Black with Firefly Vodka which was created in Wadmalaw Island, SC (outside of Charleston). I did a piece on my "favorite drink in the entire universe" last year, which you can read in detail here. Luckily for ya'll, Firefly is widely available throughout the US now. Coincidentally enough, I introduced this cocktail to many of your favorite NASCAR guys, whose names are being kept confidential!

Follow along with Happy Hour here
and PLEASE BE CAREFUL. This drink tastes exactly like sweet tea. It is dangerous, it is lethal and I do not take any blame if you decide to drunk dial your ex while drinking this today. Note to self, do not take this as a shot.

You have been warned so here's the recipe....
Megan's "Favorite drink in the entire universe"
Fill a high ball with Ice
1/2 Firefly Sweet Tea Vodka
1/2 water
Lots of lemon
I like to add a splash of sugar water to mine, I am sweet enough as it is but I am a southern chic!

Cheers Ya'll!

Happy Happy Hour

We would not be The Fashionistas if we didn't dedicate today's Happy Hour to The Mint Julep, honoring the most fashionable sporting event of the Season, The Kentucky Derby. The Fashionistas pick for the Derby? We're going with Imperialism, for no reason other than the Jockey wears pink. We will be rooting on Smarty Jones as well. Enjoy your Julep while following along with Happy Hour here.

Mint Julep
4 fresh
mint sprigs
2 1/2 oz
Early Times Kentucky Whiskey
1 tsp
powdered sugar
2 tsp
water
Muddle mint leaves, powdered sugar, and water in a collins glass. Fill the glass with shaved or crushed ice and add bourbon. Top with more ice and garnish with a mint sprig. Serve with a straw.

Happy Happy Hour!

While Megan is sunning herself on her own happy hour on the way to the Bahamas, allow me to celebrate Happy Hour with you! I think if we are in Phoenix, there is no other way to celebrate but with a Tequila Sunrise, THE signature drink at the Wright Bar at the Arizona Biltmore. We like to learn something everyday, and if you click here you will read about how this drink came to be.

On with the recipe!

Tequila Sunrise
Served on the rocks; poured over ice
Standard garnish: orange slice and cherry

4.5 cl (3 parts) Tequila
9.0 cl (6 parts) Orange juice
1.5 cl (1 part) Grenadine syrup

Preparation
Pour the tequila and orange juice into a highball glass over ice. Add the grenadine, which will sink to the bottom. Do not stir. Garnish and serve. Enjoy!

Happy Happy Hour

Today we are doing things a little different. Other than looking like a paper-clip, Martinsville is most known for their "Famous Martinsville Hot Dog". Raygen Swan of NASCAR.com did an "interview" with the famous dog here and you must read Megan's opinion of the dog here.

So today, instead of an adult beverage, cook a doggie (or 3) and enjoy happy hour here. Wait...ignore that first line. Hot dogs don't taste the same without beer. Cheers!!

The Martinsville Hot Dog
REALLY red hot dog (Jesse Jones if you can find it)
Chili
Mustard
Onions
vinegar-based slaw

Happy Happy Hour

We are kicking off Happy Hour with a Tennessee favorite, Jack Daniels. You can make many concoctions out of Jack but my favorite is the classic way with Coke. That is until we discovered Red Bull Cola last year at the fall Atlanta race and fell in love. It is perfect when mixed with Jack. Enjoy this drink (in moderation people!!) while following along with Happy Hour here. Please note, Happy Hour starts at 12:20 and the television coverage starts at 1:00 on Speed. I normally wouldn't condone drinking Jack and Red Bull before nightfall but it is Bristol baby!

Jack and Red Bull (also known as The Hilljack)
Take a high ball with ice

Fill it 1/3 of Jack Daniels
Top with Red Bull Cola

Cheers!!!

Happy Happy Hour!

Zing Zang has the best Bloody Mary mix you will ever purchase. All three of us used to be bartenders and consider ourselves Bloody Mary connoisseurs. I refused to buy a premade mix until I tried Zing Zang. Most grocery stores carry it so do yourself a treat and pick up a bottle next time you are shopping. Enjoy this cocktail while following along with Happy Hour here!

The best thing about Bloody Marys is that you can put anything you like in them. I personally like to put a pickle in mine. Darlynn likes shrimp in hers...it is like an alcoholics shrimp cocktail.

Fashionista Bloody Mary
Grey Goose or Kettle One
Zing Zang
Celery Stalk and whatever else your heart desires

Place a celery stalk in a highball glass fill with ice. Combine 1/2 vodka and 1/2 mix.

Cheers!

Happy Happy Hour!

To kick off our new weekly feature, Happy Hour, we felt the need to introduce "Old Faithful". This is a drink is very popular with us at the track. It is fairly easy to consume with a Hangover brought on by partying too much on Qualifying night. Enjoy this cocktail while following Happy Hour Here!

Old Faithful
Grey Goose, Soda Water, Cranberry, Plenty of lime wedges

Take a highball glass and fill it with ice
Pour close to 1/2 full of vodka
Top with Soda Water & a 'splash' of Cranberry
Add lime wedge(s).

Cheers!!
